This is a much hyped about budget. The Minister of Finance claims that this budget will support vulnerable communities, protect against global shocks and address Fiji’s infrastructure deficit. While the budget does attempt to boost infrastructure spending, it does little to support the vulnerable and Fiji is more defenceless against global shocks than ever. It fails to mitigate the cost of living catastrophe caused by his first two budgets. It does nothing to tackle the long-term challenges in Fiji, such as poverty, and is more of the same unimaginative policy that will deny Fijians meaningful progress and prosperity.
